On January 24, 2011, dissident and activist He Depu (何德普) was released following eight years in prison. After he exited the prison, state security officers tried to force Hu into a police car and beat him, injuring his neck and hands, when he refused. He was then taken to a local police station and read the conditions of his two years of deprivation of his political rights. According to He, he was tortured during his detention and imprisonment.
