Nine villagers face trial over bloody melee
SCMP, 10/09/2005
Nine villagers from Dongyang in Zhejiang province were put on trial on September 8, for the charges of "intentionally injuring policemen" and "inciting social unrest". The villagers were arrested after clashing with police in a protest against land pollution caused by a chemical factory. Lawyers expect the villagers would be given sentences ranging from three to ten year in prison.
