Ching Cheong was put under house arrest for investigation, according to an official notification from the State Security Bureau to the wife of the detained journalist. Yet, the Bureau did not give reasons for the delay in notification.

Cyber-dissident out of jail, gets house arrest

Reporter Without Border reported that Huang Qi, a cyber dissident, had been released after severing 5 years in a Sichuan prison, but was warned not to leave his home in rural Sichuan without police permission. Huang was arrested in June 2000 for running a “subversive” website.

Tibetan Monk Held in Qinghai

Jiagme Dasang, a 22 year old monk from Kumbum Monastery in Qinghai Province, was detained by the Huangzhong County Public Security Bureau after a daily prayer ceremony. He was alleged of having possible links with Tibetan separatist as a number of anti-government posters were noted in the monastery at the time of arrest.
