100 Tons of Chemicals Flowed into River

About 100 tons of dangerous chemical equivalent to 10 tanker-truck loads was spewed into the Songhua River, according to China's environmental watchdog, the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA). The spill has fueled national anxiety about widespread pollution. More than 300 residents of Niujiadian village and Gou Island in Harbin were evacuated from their homes yesterday.
