Police Close in on South China Hostage Dispute

Hundreds of police moved into Dongzhou (东洲), Guangdong Province on November 15 after a six-day standoff in which villagers detained eight officials to demand the release of a local activist. The villagers wanted to have an exchange between the detained villager and the eight officials. Local authorities ordered internet cafes in and around Dongzhou to close on Thursday afternoon.
