Yu Zhijian, 43, a former high school teacher and one of the people who threw paint on Mao Zedong’s portrait in 1989, has been detained on suspicion of incitement to subvert state power. He was taken away by state security officers from his home in Liuyang, Hunan Province, on February 18, 2006, after participating in a hunger strike in support of dissident lawyer Gao Zhisheng's call for an end to the persecution of activists.
