The wife of imprisoned HIV/AIDS activist Hu Jia (胡佳), Zeng Jinyan (曾金燕), has fallen out of contact since leaving Shenzhen for Beijing on June 19. Although she boarded the plane in Shenzhen, she was not seen arriving at the Beijing airport; she is suspected of having been detained by authorities. According to an e-mail to a family friend, Zeng and Hu’s mother had been permitted to meet with Hu before his release. Hu was convicted of inciting subversion of state power in April 2008. He is expected to be released on Sunday, June 26, 2011.
