It has been reported that the death penalty for Chen Tao (陈滔), who was arrested in 2004 for protesting the demolition of farmers’ housing, was ratified by the Sichuan Higher People's Court in June and carried out in late November. However, neither Chen’s family nor his lawyer were formally notified of the court’s ruling. Chen’s lawyer stated that forensic evidence suggested Chen did not murder a policeman during the protest, as he had been charged. Three other individuals arrested with Chen are serving long prison terms.
