According to China Aid Association, Protestant house church pastor Wang Zaiqing (王在庆) was given a sentence of two years' imprisonment in Anhui on October 9 on charges of "illegal business practices." Wang's crime was printing and then distributing Bibles and other Christian literature to fellow believers free of charge. Wang's lawyer argued that the crime requires the accused to make a profit, which Wang did not do.

Xuelianhua (雪莲花), an NGO working on sexually transmitted diseases in Xinjiang, said it had been shut down because local authorities wanted to silence it. The NGO's organizer Chang Kun (常坤) believed the shut down was an act of retaliation, as the group had recently exposed a case in which 19 students who tested positive for hepatitis-B were expelled from school.
