Environmental activist Wu Lihong (吴立红) was taken away by police on April 13 on charges of blackmailing, and subsequently arrested. Wu has been campaigning for years against the pollution of Taihu Lake, which is a major source of drinking water for local residents. He has been threatened repeatedly over the years for his work and was arrested in 2002 and held in detention for 10 days.
