When Zhang Qing (张青), wife of imprisoned rights defender Guo Feixiong (郭飞雄), recently tried to register their children for elementary and middle school, they were refused admission. Their son was to begin elementary school in 2007, but he was also refused admission then; Zhang Qing has since been home-schooling him. According to Zhang, local authorities have been threatening the schools to not admit her children. According to Pu, during his detention he was forced to study Mainland law and read earthquake relief articles during the day, and grilled under torture at night. He believes that they were attempting to compel him to frame Huang, as they asked him about his work with Tianwang, classified information of the group, and Tianwang's objective in going to the quake site. Pu believes that Zuo has also been released, but he told RFA that he has been unable to contact him.

Human Rights Defender - Wan Yanhai (万延海)
万延海与欧盟议员见面后被公安跟踪骚扰 (AIDS Activist Wan Yanhai Followed and Harassed by Police after Meeting with EU Official)
Radio Free Asia, June 20, 2008
http://www.rfa.org/cantonese/news/china_sue-06202008104005.html
Prominent AIDS activist Wan Yanhai (万延海) reported to RFA that he has been closely followed by police officers since meeting with European Parliament member Jules Maaten on June 18. Police had warned him not meet with Maaten that morning. Wan noted that the police have not issued him a subpoena and therefore have no legal right to follow him; he tried to raise a suit against the police department for its illegal actions on June 19, but the court would not accept it. Wan is the director of AIDS awareness group Aizhixing Institute, which announced in April 2008 that it would be cutting back on services before the Olympic Games due to increased harassment of its clients.

Radio Free Asia, June 17, 2008

On June 17, several plain-clothed men forced their way into the home of Pastor Hua Huiqi (华惠棋), threatening him to not to cause any trouble during the Olympics and to keep his nose out of others' business. Hua notified the police, and an hour later the plain-clothed men returned, asking only for confirmation of his identity. Hua suspects that this was due to his plan to apply for a protest permit. Other rights defenders report having been similarly intimidated.
