Lu Jianhua (陸建華), 45, a prominent sociologist at Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), and Chen Hui (陳輝), assistant to Director of the research institute, were reportedly detained in April and May respectively on suspicion of “leaking state secret”. CASS claimed ignorance of the detention, but noticed that Although Lu and Chen did not come to the office for a while.

Hong Kong Reporter Being Held By China

Ching Cheong, a prominent Hong Kong journalist and the Chief China correspondent of Singapore’s Straits Times, was reported under detention in China after he had been taken away by police in Guangzhou on April 22, where he was scheduled to obtain a collection of secret interviews with a Communist leader purged for opposing the 1989 Tiananmen Square movement. The authorities warned the Ching’s wife and the newspaper not to disclose Ching’s detention.
