Regional Communist Party Secretary Wang Lequan said that authorities have arrested19 foreigners on terrorism charges in Xinjiang yesterday. It is believed that they entered the region to commit sabotage.
The crackdown confirmed the launch of an official campaign against militants from Xinjiang's Uygur minority who have been struggling to make the region an independent state called East Turkestan.

Lu Banglie(吕邦烈), deputy to the Zhijiang People's Congress in Hubei Province, has disappeared after being dragged from his car and beaten up on Saturday while he was on his way to visit Taishi Village in Guangdong Province with Benjamin Joffe Walt, a reporter for The Guardian newspaper. The reporter was removed from the car and taken to a government office in Yuwoutou Township and later released. Mr. Lu's whereabouts are still unknown.
