The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy has recently confirmed that the 10-year prison sentence handed down to Tibetan Dolma Kyab (卓玛嘉因) in September of last year was upheld by the Lhasa People's Intermediate Court on November 30, 2005. Dolma Kyab was convicted on charges of “endangering state security” for writing a manuscript called "Himalaya on Stir," which includes 57 essays on democracy, the sovereignty of Tibet, and other issues.

Several mainland workers at a factory in Dongguan, Guangdong Province were detained for participating in a three-day violent riot which ended on July 25. Several mainland workers at a factory in Dongguan, Guangdong Province were detained for participating in a three-day violent riot which ended on July 25. Reportedly, several thousand people took part in the protest over inhumane working conditions. One person was injured and several properties were damaged in the riot before the police were called in.

The official Chinese investigation into the assault of Three Gorges petitioner Fu Xiancai has concluded that his injuries were self-inflicted. The authorities refused to disclose the identity of forensic pathologists who reached this conclusion and refused to answer further questions about the case. Fu was paralyzed from the shoulders down after a severe blow to the back of his neck shattered three of his vertebrae.

More than 2,000 people surrounded a local government building in Sichuan before they were dispersed on July 20. The protestors were reportedly angry over the unreasonable use of violence by Bazhong city authorities against an illegal hawker. Military police were later called in to suppress the protest and 21 protestors were arrested.

An activist has been attacked and ceremonial activities have been cancelled ahead of the one-year anniversary of a protest in Taishi Village, Guangdong Province. Activist Feng Caihong (冯彩虹) was wounded by a man whom she believed was employed by local authorities. She was one of the leaders involved in an attempt to impeach the corrupt village head a year ago.
