Human Rights Defender - Internet Activist - Li Jianping (李建平)
李建平超期拘押至今未判 (Verdict Delayed for Internet Activist Li Jianping)

According to Human Rights in China, no verdict has yet been announced in the trial of internet activist Li Jianping, nearly four months after his trial. Li was tried on April 12 on charges of "incitement to subvert state power" on the basis of articles he wrote that were posted on overseas Web sites. He has almost been completely cut off from communication with his family and lawyer. The NGO contends that the delay in the announcement of the verdict violates the Criminal Procedure Law.

More than 200 policepersons were called in to put down a protest against corruption and land grabs in a village in Liaoning Province on July 13. Four of the protesters were formally arrested, three are under detention and three were severely injured and are still in hospital. While several officials were dismissed after the incident, the arrest of protestors is ongoing and there is no sign that the authorities want to hold discussions with the villagers.
