Anti-Japan rallies spark crackdown on activists
SCMP, May 4, 2005
Human Rights in China reported that a number of dissidents, including prominent aids and pro-democracy activists Hu Jia (胡佳), had been detained and were now under government surveillance so as to preventing from organising and participating in any anti-Japan protests on May 4. The move also reflects Beijing’s growing anxiety over public sentiments and determines to silent public opinions.
