Detention – Ching Cheong
Hong Kong Reporter Being Held By China
The Washington Post, May 30, 2005
Ching Cheong, a prominent Hong Kong journalist and the Chief China correspondent of Singapore’s Straits Times, was reported under detention in China after he had been taken away by police in Guangzhou on April 22, where he was scheduled to obtain a collection of secret interviews with a Communist leader purged for opposing the 1989 Tiananmen Square movement. The authorities warned the Ching’s wife and the newspaper not to disclose Ching’s detention.
