Yu was kidnapped on December 9, 2010, the day before the award ceremony for Liu Xiaobo’s Nobel Peace Prize, and tortured to unconsciousness. He and his family went into exile in the U.S. earlier this month with the approval of state security police. Yu’s press statement, “Exposing CPC Tyranny and Running to the Free World: My Statement on Leaving China,” has been translated and released by Human Rights in China at Yu’s request.
