The US-based Cardinal Kung Foundation has reported that 72-year-old Bishop Jia Zhiguo, a leader of China’s underground Catholic church,, was taken from his hospital bed in Hebei Province on June 25. The authorities reportedly said Jia had to be given several day’s “education.” His current whereabouts are unknown.

Human rights defender Chen Guangcheng will be tried on July 20 on charges of intending to damage public property and inciting people to disrupt traffic. His wife believes the charges are a response to his exposure of human rights violations related to the one-child policy. He has been under detention for 10 months.
