On October 11, rights defender Hua Huiqi (华惠棋) was beaten unconscious in Beijing’s Chongwen district amid a fight reportedly among police officers from two stations and private security guards. Hua and his family were forcibly moved out of their apartment by the police from Chongwen district to the Fengtai district on October 8, but then Fengtai police brought Hua back to his Chongwen home on October 11. Then, a fight broke out among the two police teams and security guards hired by the New World China Land, which has been tearing down old houses in Hua’s old neighborhood for redevelopment. Hua was knocked unconscious during the fight. Police declined comment.
