The chief editor of the China Youth Daily, Li Erliang (李而亮), was recently removed from his post. His removal is believed to be the result of the publication of several critical articles in the newspaper, one of which was Professor Yuan Weishi's (袁伟时) re-evaluation of the history of the Boxer Rebellion.

About 1,000 villagers from Shunde, Guangdong Province tried to petition against land grabs at government offices when Premier Wen Jiabao attended the Chinese Export Commodities Fair held in Guangzhou on October 15. However, police were deployed so many petitioners were barred from leaving their villages and many petitioners were sent back to their home villages.
