Anti-pollution activist Wu Lihong (吴立红) was tortured by police from Yixing, Jiangsu Province, his lawyer Ms Zhu alleged on May 31. Zhu said she was only allowed to see Wu for the first time on May 30, even though Wu had been in custody for more than six weeks. Wu told Zhu that police refused to let them meet earlier due to the fact bruises on his body had not disappeared. During their meeting, Zhu reportedly saw black and blue marks on Wu's arms.
