About 1,400 police officers and 1,000 villagers have clashed over a land dispute in Jinan, Shandong Province. Twenty villagers were injured on November 5 when police sent them away from a construction site where they had detained a district official in protest against the local government's corrupt handling of a land compensation fund. A Jinan Public Security Bureau spokesman said he had never heard of the incident, but a doctor at a local hospital said four patients were admitted after the clash.
