Attorney Zhang Jiankang (张鉴康) was prevented by Xi'an police when he tried to travel to Guangdong Province to defend representatives of land grab victims who were to be tried on blackmail charges today. Another attorney was also pressured and was not able to attend the trial. The local court had previously cancelled the trial twice after finding out that the villagers had hired these lawyers and that the lawyers would be present in court.
