Although China recently allowed AIDS activist Dr. Gao Yaojie to go to the US to receive an award for her work, other lesser-known activists are being obstructed from carrying out their work. Both Zhu Longwei (朱龙伟) and Li Xige (李喜阁) have been under house arrest in Henan for nearly two months. Zhu was placed under house arrest in mid-January, after he was interviewed by a British journalist, and when he tried to attend a conference in Guangzhou, he was stopped by police. Li Xige has been under house arrest since early February and has not been allowed to communicate with the outside world.
