Yang Zaixin (杨在新) and Yang Zhonghan (杨忠汉), attorneys in Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, have been detained on charges of obstructing evidence. On Tuesday, June 14, police officers detained Yang Zaixin and confiscated several items from his home; on Wednesday, officers informed his wife that he had been sent to a detention center and was being held on charges of obstructing evidence gathering. Yang Zhonghan, Yang Zaixin's nephew, was also detained on Tuesday. Yang Zaixin has represented several sensitive cases on land grabs by the government. According to RFA, he was told in April this year that the police were intending to imprison him for instigating false testimonies and obstructing evidence.
