Report: China Dissident Freed From Asylum
AP via YahooNews.com, 02/11/2005
A New York-based rights group has reported that Wang Wanxing, a political dissident who was committed to police-run Ankang Hospital for 13 years for displaying a banner to commemorate the 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations, has been freed and put on a flight to Germany to join his family there. The group said that the release was timed ahead of an upcoming visit to China by the U.N. High Commissioner of Human Rights, Louise Arbour.

Priests Arrested After Illicit Mass
SCMP, 01/11/2005
A Milan-based religious web site reported that two underground Catholic priests were
taken into custody in Wenzhou on October 27 after they attended a mass with 600
fellow Catholics in celebration of the Year of the Eucharist. Local police refused to comment on the case. The move is considered to be the latest effort of a government crackdown on underground church activities.

AFP via YahooNews.com, 27/10/2005
The New York-based rights group Committee to Protect Journalists has reported that Shi Xiaoyu, a businessman who has been writing online reports about the Chongqing steel workers protest since August, disappeared on October 20 and is believed to have been taken away by local police.
