About 1,400 police officers and 1,000 villagers have clashed over a land dispute in Jinan, Shandong Province. Twenty villagers were injured on November 5 when police sent them away from a construction site where they had detained a district official in protest against the local government's corrupt handling of a land compensation fund. According to the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy, 2000 people mobbed a hospital in Sichuan on November 10. The incident reportedly took place following the death of a boy, whose family was sent away by the hospital to raise money for the child's treatment. It was not clear if the hospital had made any effort to treat the child. At least 10 people were injured in fighting with the police, and five were detained.
